Technology has the ability to shape new paradigms and disrupt untraditional industries due to its ability to streamline tasks, increase efficiencies and create the best user experience. As a passionate advocate of technology and its role in society, I’ve spent time analyzing how technology is transforming healthcare.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is changing the way we manage our health and medical care. For example, AI is being used by hospitals to help doctors make diagnoses faster and more accurately. The implications of this are enormous—they could help doctors stay ahead of diseases like cancer and Alzheimer’s, which kill millions every year.

Robot-assisted surgery is a type of minimally invasive surgery in which a surgeon performs the procedure with a robotic arm that is controlled by a computer. Back in 2003, we began to see robots making their way into operating rooms. Since then, there have been several developments to improve robot-assisted surgery and make it more widely accessible for surgeons and patients around the world.

Devices like Fitbits and Apple Watches now have the ability to track your heart rate and blood pressure, giving you a clearer picture of your overall health. This can help you make healthy lifestyle changes that can prevent you from developing a chronic disease later on.

Recent studies also show that some people are able to get the information they need from these devices without having to go to the doctor at all. One study found that patients with diabetes who used a device to monitor their glucose levels were able to reduce their A1c levels, which is an important marker of long-term blood sugar control.

Virtual healthcare has also made it easier than ever to see a doctor—even if you’re not sick or injured. Patients who don’t want to wait for an appointment can now use telemedicine services, which allow them to have virtual appointments with doctors via video chat.
